Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Award for Generation Procurement

The world-class standards of purchasing policies and procedures used by Energy Wholesale, Generation have been recognised with a prestigious award from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).

The CIPS Certificate of Excellence in Purchasing Policies and Procedures is awarded annually to only 55 organisations in the UK and overseas.

The Generation team was the first in ScottishPower to successfully complete the certification process and is the only one in the business of power generation to receive the award, which followed a detailed audit of the team's operation.

"Generation awarded Certificate of Excellence in Purchasing Policies and Procedures..."

Head of Generation Procurement, Steve Brooks, explained: "CIPS looked at all of our policies and procedures and how we implement these, then related that against industry best practices. They reported back with areas we needed to address and we worked to demonstrate to their satisfaction that we were achieving these.

"We had done a great deal of work before we put ourselves forward for certification in spring 2005 and needed to make only a few minor tweaks that were necessary for us to get our documentation to world-class standard."

Members of the team attended a presentation ceremony at ScottishPower's Cathcart headquarter's in December 2005 where they received their framed certificate.

Other successful organisations included HSBC, Cable and Wireless and BT.

The UK Procurement Team, established in 2005/06 following the restructuring of ScottishPower, is keen to seek recertification from CIPS this year.
