Students From Glasgow and Edinburgh Receive Scholarships From The Iberdrola Foundation

The Iberdrola Foundation has presented 38 scholarships for postgraduate studies in Energy and Environment, following the first round of scholarships to be offered by the body. Two students from the University of Edinburgh and one from the University of Strathclyde were amongst those to receive a scholarship. The successful students will enjoy assistance of between 14,000 and 20,000 Euros to carry out their studies.

Construction work has officially started at one of Scotland’s largest windfarms - the 120MW 60 turbine project at Arecleoch near Barrhill, South Ayrshire. ScottishPower has completed a major £50 million project to replace 340,000 ‘Token’ pre-payment meters with new, smarter, ‘Key’ meters across its entire network area - which includes the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Liverpool. In total, ScottishPower made more than 1 million home visits to install the meters and discuss their operation.

ScottishPower Carbon Capture And Storage Consortium Boosted With Appointment Of Shell And National Grid

Shell U.K Limited (Shell) and National Grid are joining ScottishPower’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) consortium, as the energy company sets out to deliver the UK’s first commercial size CCS system operating from a coal-fired power station by 2014. The Consortium is forging ahead with this new technology to help Britain lead the way in tackling climate change. The Consortium is in the process of submitting a bid for the UK Government’s CCS competition.
