ScottishPower's PPM Energy announces new 200 MW windfarm

ScottishPower's competitive US energy business, PPM Energy, today announced plans to build a 200 megawatt (MW) windfarm at Big Horn in the south east of Washington state with completion expected in summer 2006. Approximately $270 million will be invested in the project and it is expected to be immediately earnings enhancing upon completion.

ScottishPower's US regulated business, PacifiCorp, and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company on Friday, 22 July, filed required US federal approval requests with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and notification with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act as part of the scheduled process to gain approval of MidAmerican's acquisition of PacifiCorp from ScottishPower as announced on 24 May.

Following a review of its operating structure and functions, the Board of ScottishPower today announced a significant corporate restructuring that will result in annualised cost savings of £60m a year. This will be achieved by ceasing a wide range of reporting, regulatory and management functions previously required by the ownership of PacifiCorp and by simplifying the management structures of the continuing operations and corporate functions.

Court recommends dismissal of Klamath Tribes litigation

ScottishPower (LSE: SPW; NYSE: SPI) today announced its US competitive subsidiary, PPM Energy, and its joint venture partner, Zilkha Renewable Energy of Houston, will build and own the Maple Ridge Windfarm in upstate New York. Maple Ridge is expected to be 198 MW, nearly quadrupling the total installed wind capacity in New York. The Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE: GS) recently announced plans to acquire Zilkha Renewable Energy, subject to regulatory approvals.
