PacifiCorp Seeks $122m in Wyoming Rate Rise, Cost Recovery
9 May 2002
ScottishPower announces that on 7 May 2002 its US subsidiary, PacifiCorp, filed a rate case with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (WPSC) seeking a total of $122 million in net excess power costs and permanent rate relief.
PacifiCorp is proposing two surcharges to recover about $91 million in net excess power costs in Wyoming related to the western power crisis in 2000 and 2001.
The first is for $60 million spent in wholesale power markets from 30 November 2000 to 31 October 2001, the height of the energy crisis. The second is for about $31 million related to the Hunter 1 generating unit outage from 24 November 2000 to 8 May 2001. Recovery of both would be over 36 months.
PacifiCorp is also asking the WSPC through a general rate case to approve a permanent 9.8% rise in future customer bills, increasing annual revenue by some $31million.
Last week ScottishPower was granted $147 million by Utah regulators after a similar cost recovery case. A decision on cost recovery in Oregon is expected within a month.
