ScottishPower Announces Deputy Chairman Appointment

21 July 1999

ScottishPower announces the appointment of Charles Miller Smith, a leading UK businessman, as non-executive Deputy Chairman of the Company. He will join the Board on 1 August.

Charles Miller Smith, 59, was appointed Chairman of ICI in April this year, having served as Chief Executive from 1995. He previously held a number of senior executive positions in Unilever. Mr Miller Smith, who is also a non-executive Director of HSBC, was educated at Glasgow Academy and St Andrews University.

ScottishPower Chairman Murray Stuart said: "I am delighted that such a prominent businessman as Charles Miller Smith, who is a Scot, has agreed to become a Deputy Chairman.

"He will bring a wealth of experience to complement the strengths of the existing Board, reflecting ScottishPower's position as a leading UK company."
